Friday Night Alibi

AUTHOR:                      Cassie Mae

GENRE:                          New Adult

RELEASE DATE:       July 29, 2013

Rising star Cassie Mae introduces New Adult readers to a practical soon-to-be college freshman who seems to have everything—until a special guy shows her what she’s been missing.

In the wealthy town of Sundale, Kelli Pinkins has hatched the perfect plan to capitalize on her sweet reputation. For a generous fee, she will be every trust-fund baby’s dream: a Friday-night alibi, the “girlfriend” or “BFF” that parents dream about. With college approaching in the fall, Kelli’s services are in demand more than ever, which means that her social life is nonexistent. But Kelli is A-okay with that. She’s raking in cash for school. Besides, relationships are tricky, and sometimes very messy. She’d rather be at home on Xbox LIVE, anyway. Then the unexpected happens: She meets college stud Chase Maroney.

Chase isn’t like the preppy, privileged guys Kelli usually meets in Sundale. For starters, he’s twentysomething, always wears black., and he shoots back one-liners as fast as she can dish them out. But Kelli’s attempts to drive Chase away falter when she realizes that he treats her like he really knows her, like he cares about knowing her. When Kelli finally gives in to the delicious kiss she’s been fighting for so long, she faces a tough decision: make Chase a real-life boyfriend and risk her heart . . . or keep her clients and lose her first true love.

Pool Bubbles, Butt Shots, Morons & Stinkies, OH MY!

I've realized I LOVE a great sense of humor and Cassie Mae is my type of girl!  She always finds a way to make me laugh, laugh, laugh in her books!  Friday Night Alibi was no exception.  Although you won't fully appreciate this until you read the book for yourself, I will never smell ANYTHING citrus again without thinking of Cassie Mae and her Friday Night Alibi!!

Meet Kelli Pinkins, affluent, a bit spoiled, always does what's expected, more than a bit snobbish, and cares more than she should about what other people think.  She lives in a community that keeps her that way, because EVERYBODY knows EVERYONE, and they too are extremely judgemental and act not for themselves but for the image they want to portray to their community.   Even with all of her efforts to appear perfect to those around her, Kelli runs a business that would place her in the center of gossip and controversy in her small community, if her "occupation" is ever found out.  Kelli is "selling herself" so to speak, on a weekly basis to help her friends date people their families wouldn't approve of. If you have the money, Kelli will be your Friday Night Alibi.  Pretending to  date young men her family and community would approve of, Kelli lives a very sheltered, isolated and lonely exsistence.  Because of her business she spends most of her time alone in her room, playing Xbox Live.  She can only be 100% honest about herself to her best friend Sadie and to a guy she plays Xbox Live with but has never met.

Sadie convinces Kelli to step out of her Friday Night bubble for one night, and when she does, it puts Kelli directly in the path of Chase Maroney.  Suddenly the girl that decides the only romance she needs in her life, is the "pretend boyfriends" of her Friday Nights, becomes tangled in a real life "frenemy" relationship with a guy she can't stop thinking about (or insulting.)

Enter Chase Maroney:  I just have to say I LOVED chase. (The fact that Kelli feels like he resembles Joseph Gordon-Levitt, didn't hurt his appeal to me, either lol) Chase is a laid back college student, doesn't care what people think about him, totally selfless and the polar opposite of Kelli.  Chase has a quick wit, and a wicked sense of sarcasm and humor. Kelli & Chase's first encounter wasn't a positive one, yet you could tell Chase still saw something in her, even then.  Later on when they find out they new each other all along, I love the way that Chase won't let Kelli push him away, no matter what she does, and believe me she gets pretty creative in her efforts.  Even though this book lacks the "smexiness"  (my fave combination of smut and sexy lol) of most of the books I've read lately, Chase was totally a hottie, and DEFINITELY had his swoon worthy moments.  After being overexposed to sex scene after sex scene in most romance novels (not complaining I love a great sex scene) it was nice to see that a hot and heavy make out session can produce the same affect.  I found I had to fan myself after one of the kissing scenes.

There is nothing hotter to me than the way Chase came over and took care of Kelli while she was sick, even though she takes every opportunity she can to let him know she doesn't like him or need him and whirls insult after insult at him. I guess I have a thing for "emotional/sweet" heroes, ancd Chase was totally that.  He never let's her push him away, because he knows how he feels for her, and he waits for her to figure it out on her own, how she feels for him.  I was sold on Chase from the beginning, however throughout the book I found at times I didn't like Kelli, lol, I just wanted her to hurry up and get with the program and realize how amazing this guy is!!  But leave it to Cassie Mae, to make me love both characters by the end of the book.  Kelli & Chase both have a sad back story that makes you understand EXACTLY why they live and interact the way they do.

Friday Night Alibi was a sweet, FUNNY, sad, love story.  Filled with clever banter, hilarious insults and pranks.   It was refreshing to read a book that almost screams wholesome.  It reminds me of a coming of age tale, because I think that is exactly what happens to Kelli during this story, she matures, and she learns to SEE people for who they are, and not the package they come in or rich family they belong to.  I thoroughly enjoyed Friday Night Alibi, and I most definitely will read it again!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

 So, yeah...

A lot of people ask me how long I've been writing. What made me want to write? Stuff like that. A lot of people say they've always written. That they knew they'd be a writer since they could hold a pen. I wrote stuff, like for contests when I was younger, but nothing major. Actually I look at those stories and totally giggle! Like there was this one with a hot air balloon and a monkey that jumps on a trampoline in the middle of it. Where was my mind? Yeah I don't know.

Oh, did I get off topic? Another thing about me that happens a lot. What was I trying to say? Oh! Writing. Well, I’m ashamed to say that I wasn’t born a writer. Writing was thrust upon me when I realized I was a 20 year old new mommy that had nothing to do with her time, so I read. And read and read and read and read… yeah, you get it. Then, suddenly I started writing. I’ve always had conversations and scenes and crap like that in my head, and found out when I started putting it ‘on paper’, I really liked it. Bam! The obsession begins!
And just fun little facts about yours truly...

I can bend my arm the other way... like the wrong way. Totally gross, right? Lol.

Cheesecake is my all time favorite food. I would eat cheesecake for the rest of my life, no matter how much my butt and thighs will pay for it.

I'm a dork. Like full out nerd. I have a Harry Potter closet (which is under the stairs, btw... which makes it doubly awesome) full of all my collectables my kids are not allowed to touch. Including the first movie trailer film reel.

Mountain Dew was a gift to writers like me from the writing gods.

And I like comments. Just saying :)

Revisiting BROKEN by Christa Cervone

Release Date: February 25, 2013

Author:  Christa Cervone

Cover Models:  Alex Minsky and Britney Marie Flores

Our PERSONAL review: Coming Soon!!!!!

SYNOPSIS

According to Webster’s Dictionary the definition of the word Broken is violently separated into parts. SHATTERED.

Yup, that pretty much sums me up. How do I handle things? I find my answers at the bottom of a bottle of Tequila and sleep with random men.

How did I get this way? Well, four years ago I made a decision that cost me the love of my life. I can't undo what I did to drive Garrett out of my life. I haven't seen or heard from him in four long years. But he still haunts me in my dreams or should I call them nightmares at this point? No matter how much booze I drink and how many men I sleep with, nothing fills the void. I feel like I am existing but I’m not really living.

I’m trying to get my life back on track. Well that was until. . . . Garrett walked back into my life. His reappearance threw me into another tailspin.
How do I put the pieces of our broken hearts back together? All before he walks out of my life again... this time for good. Or am I simply destined to just be Broken?

TEASER TIME

Jimmy came barging through the door. “Saint, you’re not going to fucking believe who is talking to Frankie right now?”

“Who?”

“Blaine Davis.”

I stared at Jimmy with a blank look on my face. “Who’s Blaine Davis?”

“Only the richest guy this side of the tracks.”

I shrugged my shoulders. “So, what’s the big fuckin’ deal?”

“It’s a big fucking deal because he’s heard about you and your fight with ‘The Gladiator.’  Apparently, he wants to sponsor you or some shit.  I was trying to listen in, but Frankie caught me and sent me away.”

“I don’t need any sponsors.  I’m good.”

“Do you realize what a sponsor could do for you?”

“Yeah, I do.  I also realize I’d need to answer to that sponsor.  I already have to answer to Frankie. I don’t need someone else breathing down my neck.”

“Well, if his money won’t sway you, you should see the cute little honey he has with him.  She’s a Gingah.”

“A what?”

“A Gingah. You know she has red hair,” he said touching his hair.

“You’re so fucking stupid,” I laughed.

“I wonder if her carpet matches her drapes,” Jimmy laughed raising his eyebrows.

“Dude, seriously. . . Are you twelve?”

“You gotta come see her.  She’s a fuckin’ dime.”

Jimmy had actually sparked my interest at this point.  He wasn’t one to check out other girls.  He only had eyes for Stephannie.

“I’ll be out in one minute.  Let me finish getting my gloves on.”

“Don’t take too long.  I'd hate for you to miss out on this piece of ass.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

I highly doubt the girl standing in my gym was going to be the hottest girl I’ve ever seen before.  I’ve had my share of hot chicks.

Once the gloves were on, I did a once over in the mirror, then headed out into the gym.  I saw Frankie talking to some young guy who was probably around my age.  He was dressed in a well tailored suit and some pansy ass shoes.  I laughed to myself. What a jerk-off walking around in those shoes.

“Ahhhh!  Gabriel, there you are.  Come over here, there’s someone I want you to meet,” Frankie said cordially.

I jogged over. “What’s up Frankie?”

“Gabriel, this is Blaine Davis.”

I held out my hand to shake his then realized I had my gloves on.  “Sorry, I’d shake your hand but. . .” I said looking down at my hands.

Truth was I didn’t want or need this guy in my life.  I’d gotten by just fine before him, and I’ll get along just fine after him.

“Saint, it’s really great to finally meet you.  I’ve been following you for some time now,” Blaine said enthusiastically.

“Oh yeah?” I replied, unphased.

“I can’t wait to see you kick the shit out of Gladiator.”

“Gladiator is going to be a tough opponent.  My guess is it’ll go to a decision.”

“No way man.  You’re going to TKO him within the first few rounds.  I have money on it.”

This dude was raking on my nerves.  He didn’t even know what the fuck he was talking about.  Frankie was right I needed to get myself prepared for this fight.  Gladiator was a phenomenal boxer, and I had my work cut out for me.

“Well, it was really nice to meet you, but I gotta go start training,” I said walking toward the ring.

“I’d really like to sit down and talk about sponsoring you,” Blaine said.

“Talk to Frankie and set it up.  He knows my schedule.”

I had no intentions of keeping that meeting.  I’d have Frankie schedule it and then have him cancel it.

“Blaine, are you almost done?” I heard a sweet, soft voice say from the corner of the room.

There she was…. This beautiful, petite red head who must have stood only five feet five inches, and that was with her wearing stiletto high heels.  She was dressed as formally as Blaine was.  The dress she was wearing probably cost a small fortune; though, it hugged her in all the right places.  I’m sure my entire wardrobe didn’t cost as much.  With her pale blue eyes, she looked me up and down, giving me a little smirk.

“How rude of me,” Blaine said. “Saint this is my girlfriend, Salem Harris.  Salem this is Saint, the fighter I’ve been telling you about.”

“Blaine, come here! I want to show you something,” Frank shouted interrupting our introductions.

Salem and I stood in silence.

“Salem?  That’s an intriguing name.” I smiled trying to break the awkward silence.

“I was named after my Great Grandmother,” she replied, completely uninterested.

“Well, it’s a unique and beautiful name.”

I caught her looking me up and down again. “You like what you see, sweetheart?” I winked at her.

Her smirk quickly changed to a sneer. “In your dreams,” she quietly said, rolling her eyes, but loud enough for me to hear her.

“Burn!  Shot down by the Gingah,” Jimmy laughed loudly as he walked by.

“I beg your pardon?”  She snapped directing herself to Jimmy.

I could tell by the shocked look on Jimmy’s face he didn’t expect to see that reaction come out of her.

“I . . . Ummm. . . I’m sorry,” was all Jimmy could get out.

“Salem, he was just kidding,” Blaine said walking up behind her, putting his hand around her waist.

“He has no right to insult me like that,” she said raising her voice.

“You’re right he doesn’t.  Jimmy, apologize to the lady,” I interjected trying to defuse the situation.

Frankie would kill Jimmy if he pissed off a potential sponsor.  Frankie’s gym stayed open primarily through grants, donations and sponsorships.

Jimmy walked closer to Salem. “I’m really sorry.  I didn’t mean to offend you.  It was just a joke.”

“Don’t worry about it, Jimmy.  She’ll be just fine.  Won’t you, Salem?” Blaine said consoling her.

Salem shook her head, yet she was still giving both me and Jimmy a dirty look.

“Come on.  Let’s get into the ring before you say something else that’s stupid,” I laughed to Jimmy patting him on the back.

There is nothing sexier than a confident man...except a confident man who is aware of his short comings and is willing to change it all for the woman he loves.

In Adam's Apple we meet the sexy, powerful, playboy, Adam Kingsley.  Adam is going about his life consuming everything in his path, simply because he can.  He makes power plays in the boardroom and in the bedroom.  During the day he's making million dollar decisions in Kings Capital with his 3 college buddies, Tom, Patrick and Simon.  He's successful, confident, reliable, productive...he has a passion to succeed and it has made him an extremely wealthy man, with a career to be proud of.  However his night time antics involve a revolving door of different women. He meets them, beds them...well not really "bed" seeing as they rarely make it out of his Escalade...then sends them on their way.  He's been with so many, that one beautiful face fades into the next and he can't keep track of all his conquests.  His reputation proceeds him where ever he goes.

Enter Kathryn Delcour.  Stunning, self confident, self assure...she is hands down the most beautiful woman the New York social scene has seen in quite some time and of course she instantly draws Adam's attention.  However, Kathryn comes equip with a no nonsense "bull-shit" detector that keeps Adam at arms length.  He wants to offer her a night of "fucking" and she lets him know straight away that she deals with MEN not BOYS and Adam has yet to rise to her level.  She practices an ancient form of love making that Adam can not comprehend. Adam doesn't know what to make of Kathryn, he's not use to having to "work" for anything or anyone.  Things have always come easy to him.  However he finds he can't keep the beautiful Kathryn off his mind.  Circumstance seem to intervene and he finds himself at her mercy.  He is given the opportunity to learn more about Kathryn and the ancient art of love making that she teaches her clients.  Although clueless, he proves to be a willing student and she a skilled instructor.

I enjoyed reading a book with characters over 30 that were HOT, educated, fun, and flawed.  It was a delight to see this sexy Playboy tell his own story from his point of view, and it was nice to see him change and discover his true self, and possibly find love in the process.  However, that is not all you'll find in Adam's AppleDeceit, intrigue, suspense, danger...they are all lurking around the corner and you have to read this amazing book for yourself to find out more!  Adam's Apple was a thrill ride I'm sure I'll take again before the release of the sequel in December 2013!!  I give Adam's Apple 5 STARS.  It was truly one of the best books I've read this summer (and believe me I read ALOT)
