The Captive Series by Erica Stevens

Erica Stevens is, hands down, one of my favorite Paranormal authors.  I've decided to highlight her series after the release of the 4th and final book in the series Salvation.  Not only is she an amazing author, she is one of the sweetest ladies I've had the opportunity to meet.  This is one of the MANY perks of being a "book" blogger, you get to interact with such awesome people.  This post will focus on my review of Salvation, however it will highlight each of the books in Erica Steven's "Captive" series.

NEWEST RELEASE:

BOOK DESCRIPTION

4th and last book in the Captive Series.

Imprisoned by Caleb and at the mercy of the king, Aria is determined not to let them break her. However, the more atrocities she witnesses, the more she realizes there are some horrors no one can withstand, and sometimes survival isn’t always the best option.

Tormented by the loss of Aria, Braith is forced to choose between his need to rescue her, and the impending rebel war he’s been chosen to lead. Fighting against the darkness which threatens to drag him into its tempting depths, Braith struggles not to become like the one thing he hates the most, his father.

Faced with their own separate challenges, Aria and Braith must come to terms with who they are, what they want, and the likelihood that they can never be together as the inevitable war looms on the horizon. A war that all of them will fight but not all of them will survive.

FORBIDDEN LOVE ~ UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE ~ UNDENIABLE LOVE

A Romeo & Juliet love story....IF Romeo were a sexy-blind-Vampire-prince and if Juliet was a tree climbing-woods woman.

The Captive Series has been one of my favorites every since I read the 1st chapter of Captured.  I think I facebook "stalked" Erica Stevens for what feels like FOREVER as I awaited the release of  Salvation.  I normally don't start reading a book with expectations, or preconceived notions of how the book will be...HOWEVER, with Salvation, I started it with the expectation that Erica Stevens would take me on an unforgettable journey with nail-biting twists and turns along the way, and she did NOT disappoint.  I am going to try my best to give this review without laying on the "spoilers"...bare with me, it's one of my faves, that may be hard to accomplish!

Erica Stevens has the ability to draw you in with her vivid depictions of the character's surroundings.  While reading Salvation, I was IN the forest with Braith, seeing red wanting to rush ahead and search for my love.  I FELT cold, trapped and confined with Arianna in her cell.  All of this due to Erica's ability to pull you into her writing.  After reading the 4th book  in the Captive Series, you can't help but become attached to all the supporting characters.  I want Jack to have his own book...I want Ashby & Melinda to share their story...I grew to admire Xavier and I want to hear more of how he came to be...I think the brothers Daniel and William should find happiness and love...Gideon...Max...if it was up to me the Captive Series would have 12 books!!  For this review I'll focus on Arianna and Braith.

Arianna-proof that GREAT things come in small packages.  She's one of my favorite book heroines because of her spirit and her inner strength.  Since Captured Arianna has been put into situations that would mentally (and physically) break the average person, yet she not only endures, she survives and teaches lessons along the way.  Salvation wasn't any different.  In Salvation she shined.  We got to see how selfless Ari is, she never hesitates to put her love for Braith and her family first.  Her size never impedes her ability to fight for her self respect...her being human and placed in the path of powerful Vampires like Atticus and Caleb, she never lets her fears show, even as they try to break her spirit.  Throughout Salvation, Ari's inner strength shines through.  Towards the middle of the book we are enlightened as to another reason why she has this resolve and her abilities....and in the end everything is as it should be.

Braith-How can you not LOVE Braith? His unconditional love for Arianna is awe-inspiring. Since Captured they formed a bond that was unbreakable...unavoidable, and no matter how many ways people attempted to keep them apart, they have that "link" that binds them together. We saw how he lost control in Renegade, after Aria left him and the havoc that he is capable of wreaking. Being separated from Aria in Refugee, we saw how lost he was at the beginning of Salvation.  However in Salvation we get to see the softer side of Braith, and we see that even while lost, he manages to stay in control and focus on the important task at hand, reuniting with his other half: Arianna.  Braith will do ANYTHING to protect Aria, even take on his Father Atticus, the oldest and most powerful vampire alive...and his brother Caleb, the most evil and vicious.  I think during Salvation I was able to focus on Braith's heart/humanity...you can see and feel his love for Arianna.  I was cheering for them throughout this entire series, and if the series had to end, I'm content with the ending :)

LASTLY....if you are looking for a love story, that has action, thrills and suspense, SALVATION is for you!  Erica Stevens managed to pack a huge punch in her final book in the Captive series. START FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE SERIES! It's totally worth it!  I am hopeful  **sending vibes Erica's way** that she will take pity on her die hard fans and give us a few more character books from this series :)

Book 1:  CAPTURED

Captured, taken from her beloved family and woods, Aria’s biggest fear is not the imminent death facing her, but that she will be chosen as a blood slave for a member of the ruling vampire race. No matter what becomes of her though, Aria knows that she must keep her identity hidden from the monsters imprisoning her. She has already been branded a member of the rebellion, but the vampires do not know the true depth of her involvement with it, and they must never know.

Though hoping for death, Aria’s world is turned upside down when a vampire named Braith steps forward to claim her. He delays her execution, but Aria knows it’s only a matter of time before he drains her, and destroys her. Especially once she learns his true identity as a prince within the royal family; the same royal family that started the war that ultimately brought down humankind, reducing them to nothing more than servants and slaves.

Aria is determined to hate the prince, determined not to give into him in anyway, but his strange kindness, and surprising gentleness astonish her. Torn between her loyalties to the rebellion, and her growing love for her greatest enemy, Aria struggles to decide between everything she has ever known, and a love she never dreamed of finding

Book 2:  RENEGADE

Though she is free of the palace, rescued from her position as a blood slave, Aria is haunted by the memories of her time spent within the fortress, tormented by memories of Braith, the prince that betrayed her and shattered her heart.

Every day is a struggle to get through, and the only solace she is able to find is with Max, her best friend, and fellow captive. Though Max does not understand her bond to Braith, he knows some of what she endured, and helps to ease some of the tattered pieces of her soul. Aria slowly begins to salvage the broken parts of her wounded spirit by throwing herself into the wonder of the woods she had so greatly missed, and the secure and reassuring love that Max freely gives her. Her world is thrown into a tailspin again though when a marauding group of vampires destroy the caves she had found temporary shelter in.

Scattered about the forest, seeking to stay hidden and find her family, Aria is stunned when Braith, the monster that savaged her heart, reappears. Stunned by his sudden arrival in her world, Arianna is uncertain if he has come to recapture her, or to kill her for daring to escape.

Book 3:  REFUGEE

Whispers, rumors, and horror stories abound about The Barrens and the strange creatures that lurk within them. Determined to find the remaining vampires that stood against his father in the war, Braith knows that it’s dangerous to enter the inhospitable land, but that they must if they are to have a chance at gaining allies to help overthrow the king. Though he once knew the powerful vampires that are rumored to reside within The Barrens, he is unsure what to expect if they succeed in finding them. He will do whatever is necessary though to ensure a future for himself and Aria.

Aria is fearful of entering into the land she’s heard nothing but cautionary tales about, but she’s determined to help Braith locate the vampires that may help them with their cause. She is fascinated and amazed by the world they uncover within, one that is unlike anything she has ever seen before. However, the more immersed they become in a world that she doesn’t entirely understand, the more she realizes that it won’t be the war, or even the king that will eventually tear her and Braith apart.

It will be her.
